KOTA KINABALU, Sabah (Feb 1, 2025) — The European Wellness Biomedical Group (EWBG) welcomed the Year of the Wood Snake with vibrant celebrations at their head office on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. This marked the first Chinese New Year celebration at the center since its grand opening on August 22 of last year. Originally scheduled to open on Monday, the decision to hold the festivities on Saturday was made because it was the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, considered an auspicious day for European Wellness.
The celebrations featured traditional lion dances and a spectacular firecracker display for auspicious reasons. The event kicked off with the rhythmic sounds of drums, signaling the arrival of the lion dancers. Dressed in colorful costumes, the performers captivated the audience with their energetic movements and acrobatics, symbolizing good luck and prosperity for the coming year.
A highlight of the occasion was a stunning 7-minute firecracker display featuring 216 feet of red firecrackers sprawling across the floor of the Premier Center. Following this, an additional 3.5-minute display of 108 feet of firecrackers was set off at the office building, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Professor Mike Chan, a world-renowned stem cell scientist and anti-aging expert in the field of integrative bioregenerative and longevity medicine; and founder of EWBG — was garbed in his lucky and auspicious orange attire, complemented by white pants and shoes, embodying the spirit of the celebration.
The previous night, Professor Chan had continued a cherished tradition by lighting another 216 feet of firecrackers at his home, a custom he has practiced for three decades. He emphasized the importance of these rituals, stating,
Chinese New Year celebrations are something very close to my heart. It’s a time to embrace family and friends, and starting the New Year with auspicious events like the lion dance and firecrackers sets a positive tone for the year ahead.
Attendees, including staff and community members, gathered to witness the spectacle, capturing moments on their smartphones and sharing in the excitement. The event not only celebrated cultural traditions but also strengthened community bonds within the organization. Participants expressed their hopes for health and success in the upcoming year, embodying the spirit of togetherness that characterizes the Chinese New Year.
As the celebrations continued, the European Wellness Biomedical Group reinforced its commitment to promoting wellness and cultural appreciation, cherishing the moments spent with family and friends while looking forward to a prosperous year ahead.
