MIRI, Sarawak – Miri, a coastal city in Sarawak, is making strategic advancements to position itself as a leader in regenerative medicine. These efforts are supported by Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan, founder of European Wellness Biomedical Group (EWBG), in collaboration with TAK Group chairman, Architect Teo Ah Khing, who is spearheading the Kenyalang Smart City initiative. The city aims to integrate advanced medical research and education into its development plans, reinforcing its status as a hub for medical wellness tourism.

Strategic Collaborations in Research and Educational Initiatives
During his visit, Prof. Mike Chan engaged in discussions with key stakeholders, including Miri’s Mayor YB Adam Yii Siew Sang and Architect Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of TAK Group. In a collaborative effort, Prof. Chan and EWBG are working alongside TAK Group to integrate regenerative medicine, medical wellness tourism, and research into the broader vision of the Kenyalang Smart City project. This partnership aims to position Miri as a hub for cutting-edge healthcare innovation while complementing the city’s sustainable and technology-driven development.
A major milestone in this initiative is the establishment of a branch of Fudan University in Miri. This project includes repurposing historical buildings, such as the old municipal hall and former provincial office, into facilities dedicated to teaching, research, and a Biodiversity Museum integrating modern and traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, EWBG will work alongside Fudan University to enhance the city’s role in medical wellness tourism, research, and education.
Advancements in Regenerative Medicine
Prof. Mike Chan has been a pioneer in the field of regenerative medicine for over four decades. In the 1980s, he pioneered cellular therapy and precursor stem cell research in Europe, leading two renowned Swiss and German companies specializing in anti-aging and cellular therapies. His efforts have been instrumental in integrating these therapies into mainstream healthcare, focusing on cellular repair, immune modulation, and inflammation control.
Under his leadership, EWBG has become a global leader in regenerative medicine, known for its expertise in targeted organ-and-brain-specific precursor stem cell therapy, immunotherapy, and personalized health programs. The group operates a network of advanced facilities worldwide, delivering cutting-edge solutions that empower individuals to achieve optimal health and vitality.
Our role in Miri is to collaborate closely with TAK Group to introduce world-class regenerative medicine, education, and medical tourism to this rapidly advancing region,
said Prof. Chan.
He added that he will personally bring advanced medical research methodologies from the United States, Europe, and Japan to further strengthen and develop bioregenerative technology in Miri.
By merging cutting-edge science with traditional wellness practices, we are laying the foundation for a future-ready healthcare ecosystem in Sarawak,
he added.
Government Support and Future Prospects
Sarawak’s leadership, including Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, supports these initiatives. Dr. Sim noted that Fudan University’s involvement, in collaboration with EWBG, could address the region’s shortage of medical professionals through enhanced education and training.
The Sarawak Smart City project represents a significant step toward modernization, integrating technology with culture and infrastructure to drive economic growth, improve healthcare, and enhance Sarawakians’ quality of life. With EWBG’s participation, Miri is poised to become a model for regional smart city development.
Ensuring a Sustainable and Equitable Future for Sarawak
As Miri embarks on this transformative journey, the convergence of visionary leadership and strategic partnerships offers a unique opportunity to redefine healthcare in the region. Stakeholders, policymakers, and the global medical community are encouraged to support and engage with these initiatives, fostering a collaborative effort to advance regenerative medicine and improve quality of life.
